Embraco is a multinational focused on innovative refrigeration solutions that stand out for efficiency and low energy consumption. Founded in 1971 in Joinville (Brazil), it sells products in more than 80 countries, directly employing around 11,000 people in seven countries (Brazil, China, Italy, Slovakia, USA, Russia and Mexico). It can produce up to 40 million hermetic compressors per year and is one of the private companies with the largest number of active patents in Brazil and the USA, totaling 1,700 globally.

Challenges faced

A benchmark in the refrigeration market, Embraco is always setting trends and innovating its products. Because of this innovative DNA, the company needed agility in creating and releasing products to market — and understood that master data governance was essential to simplify internal processes and reduce the time between customer order and product delivery.

To better serve customers, Embraco pursued processes and technologies to support master data management with clear objectives: address governance for materials and products, standardize processes and define ownership, generate gains across Product Development, Procurement and Logistics, increase information quality, ensure fiscal and tax governance and transfer tacit knowledge to the company's domain.

Finally, it was necessary to simplify and automate processes in pursuit of operational excellence and to deploy a technology solution directly connected to SAP, avoiding integrations.

The solution

Deep expertise in master data processes and SAP technologies, combined with a solution fully integrated with SAP ERP, led Embraco to choose akquinet HKS consulting for this global project. Work started with the process mapping for material, product and related registrations (BOM, routing, purchasing info record and source list). Based on AS-IS analysis, BRO MDM+ potential and market best practices, standardized processes were defined for Embraco's 11 global units. The project was split in two phases: 1st — building the master data culture, with new processes orchestrated by the BRO workflow; and 2nd — Simplification and Automation, applying forms and business rules to automate most of the registration.
