Founded in 1925 by brothers Otto Kepler and Adolfo Kepler Jr., Kepler Weber is today the leading company in Latin America for grain storage and bulk handling. The company operates two manufacturing units — in Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso do Sul — with its administrative headquarters in São Paulo.
Because of the nature of the products it designs and manufactures, material and product master data is part of Kepler's backbone. A high volume of new records is a daily routine and, with the deployment of SAP ERP, this process became even more critical.
During the SAP ERP deployment, Kepler realized its material and product registration processes would demand a large effort, which did not exist in the legacy system. The first initiatives created SAP workflows to control the registration processes. These initiatives showed that standard SAP tools would not allow effective control and did not match the needs or agility required by the business — high maintenance effort and a long lead time, potentially impacting customer service.
This context led Kepler to look on the market for tools bringing speed, quality and control (governance) to its master data processes.
During the tool selection, MDM+ BRO was picked for being a product fully integrated with SAP, offering an easy way to build and maintain workflows and to automate and govern processes through business rules. The deployment ran alongside the SAP project, implementing around 60 processes for creation, extension, modification and obsolescence. To optimize engineering, an integration with Siemens Teamcenter PLM was also delivered: the engineer registers basic and classification information in PLM, and BRO automatically creates the material in SAP starting the registration workflow, standardizing short and long texts and pushing the information back to PLM. Every standard transaction that would not ensure governance was discontinued, making BRO the single tool responsible for creating and maintaining an average of 4,200 records per month.
- 62 registration processes mapped and deployed in the tool
- More than 4,200 records created every month through BRO
- More than 110,000 records created since SAP deployment
- Integration with Siemens Teamcenter PLM in the material creation process
- 82% reduction in registration effort thanks to business rules
- Automation of Purchasing Info Record and Source List during registration
- Simplified forms and value restrictions per process
- Full governance with traceability of where and with whom each process is stopped
